We hope these Q&As help you plan your visit to A Hasty Getaway!
Our rates vary depending on season and local activities. Weekends, special events, and holidays will be higher, weekends and slower times will be lower.
Our VRBO calendar allows you to check availability and rates at any time.
Well-behaved pets are welcome at A Hasty Getaway. Just like well-behaved children! With no extra fees!!!
We’ve provided water/food bowls in case you forget. And doggie treats!
You will also find light-up collars that slide over your dog’s head for night-time walks. It can get very dark out; this makes it easier to see Rover in the woods!
We even built doggie portholes into the deck!
Nope! You will be in the middle of a forest, about a 15 minute drive from town. Life is a bit different out here, but we love it! You do have to plan your outings and combine trips! Otherwise you'll spend all of your time running to and fro! But if you're prepared and willing, you can slow down, take it easy, relax, and let yourself enjoy your time here away from the hustle and bustle.
This is the perfect place to relax , read a book, and connect.
There’s a lending library with a “Take one/Leave one” policy.
There are also reference books available featuring several books about the area.
We stock a lot of classic games like cards, checkers, and chess! We even have coloring books, crayons, and colored pencils!
We've included lots of day trip and hike suggestions in our information folder!
And naps!
Newton county is dry, which means no liquor stores, no beer at the grocery or the gas station, nothing! You must bring your adult beverages with you!
We provide glasses, wine openers, etc., but you must bring your favorite libation!
Your food!
We probably have everything you need to prepare and serve meals.
You will find all of the plates, glasses, silverware, and pots/pans you might need. There’s a wide selection of mixing bowls and food storage containers. You will also find a hand blender. There’s a toaster; and casserole dishes, bread pans, etc. Spatulas, cooking knives, measuring cups, and measuring spoons are all available. Even a pizza wheel and pizza pan!
You should also find flour, sugar, and the common spices. There’s probably some uncommon spices as well!
Like everything else, we suggest you get to the cabin and ensure it's here!
We would love to be able to provide breakfast to you but that's just not feasible. So we've tried to do the next best thing!
The cabin tries to cool things on hand so you can have breakfast on us! There should be pancake mix (just add water) and syrup as well as butter in the freezer. There should also be instant oatmeal. That and a cup of coffee (see below) should get your day started on a great note!
Nope, there is a charcoal grill for your use. There should also be charcoal and lighter fluid available. We also provide grilling tools. And we have marshmallow sticks for toasting marshmallows over a fire!
Be sure to check when you arrive, but there should be charcoal when you arrive!
Oh yes, we believe in coffee! We have coffee pots! A small Keurig, a regular Mr. Coffee, and a French press. There should be K-cups and ground coffee available.
And assorted creamers, sugars, teas, etc., of all varieties. Try sitting on the porch and enjoying your first cup; a great way to start the day!
A special word: a lot of effort has gone into the bed in the bedroom! It has been especially upgraded to deliver the sweetest of dreams!
There is also a queen-sized sleeper sofa and two twin-sized pallets are located in the sleeping loft.
The bed in the bedroom is made up with quality sheets, a blanket, and a comforter. Pillows in shams and sleeping pillows are provided.
You will also find throw blankets everywhere in case you need an extra snuggle!
Sheets, blankets, and pillows for the sofa bed are also provided.
And the sleeping loft has sheets and blankets for the twin sized sleeping pallets!
We also have throw sheets to put over the bed and furniture if you have pets!
Yes, we have running water! A full-sized bathtub and shower (with a grab bar!), sink, and toilet.
There is a hair dryer, magnifying mirror, and a washer/dryer and detergent. Even an iron and ironing board (although I doubt they've ever been used!)
Please bring your own shampoo/conditioners if you’re picky 🙂 Otherwise, we provide a nice, all-in-one body soap, shampoo, conditioner (trying to help the planet) that works really well!
There should also be small toothpastes, extra toothbrushes, and mouthwash. Other emergency supplies include nail polish remover and polish, shave cream, and razors. Full-sized lotions, shampoo, and powder should also be available.
In a separate container, on a high shelf, you will find other items you might forget; feminine protection, random medicines, sunburn cream, etc. There’s also a selection of bug sprays for your use in the spring and summer.
You should also find alcohol, peroxide, bandages, and other first aid items.
We tried to think of all the things you might need in the middle of the night, when you can't run to the 7-11, and provide them to get you over until you can get to the store!
Reliable Internet access is available through a DSL connection. The cabin has it’s own wi-fi so you can connect your devices from anywhere nearby!
Yes, there’s a color television running You Tube TV and all of the streaming services. You may have to log in with your own account.
There is a land line telephone, just in case.
You are in the middle of pine/oak forest of the Ozark National Forest and the Buffalo National River. You will be living with everything that lives in a forest; raccoons, opossum, birds, turkeys, deer, coyotes, owls, some bears, even elk.
There should be plenty of firewood for the firepit available; no need to bring your own!
Along with all of this come chiggers and ticks in the summer time. And poison ivy! We try to control the area surrounding the cabin, but it can get ugly outside of our perimeter!
We strongly suggest avoiding tromping through the woods in the summer! Established trails are fine (with protection) but no trailblazing!
We strongly recommend you bring/use a pest repellent with Deet. If you are non-Deet, our personal best is Avon’s Skin So Soft, the original oily formula. Applied in the morning, it seems to do the best at stopping ticks before they bite.
Pets should also be given extra protection while visiting, especially if they’ll run through the brush. On top of their regular flea/tick protection, a flea/tick collar is useful. We’ve also used Skin So Soft (Avon makes a spray container) sprayed and rubbed into the fur. Especially on legs and paws!
Again, this is really only in the summer time and away from the cabin.
PS. You can catch poison ivy from your pets!
The deck allows you to really take in the natural beauty surrounding the cabin and gives you a nice covered place to enjoy the outdoors.
Special lighting illuminates the outdoor area at night, because yes, it's dark out here!
And we left plenty of deck area uncovered for star gazing at night!
Smoking outdoors is fine, but please do not smoke inside!
An ashtray is provided on the porch. Please do not throw your butts in the yard. Jackie yells and we are a little (a lot) afraid of her!
